The Walking Bus

The Walking Bus concept is the safe, healthy and environmentally friendly approach to walking large groups of children to and from school whilst alleviating school run traffic congestion. A walking bus has endless possibilities.

Walking Bus

The walking bus is the latest safe, fun and healthy way to travel to and from school. It comprises adult volunteers to drive and conduct a group of children. Powered by good old fashioned legwork, it follows a set route to school collecting pupils at designated bus stops. Mouchel Parkman and Hertfordshire County Council have been involved with walking buses since 1998 and have set up over 50 routes. At one of our schools we have 4 routes in operation with more than 80 children. Each route can be individually identifiable with different colour fluorescent jackets. Mouchel Parkman has set up a website at www.walkingbus.com dedicated to the setting up and running of walking buses. There is a chance to order a walking bus starter pack, post a message and read about schools which use walking buses.
